Although old style water power turbines required high fall to create water pressure, and thus you needed high mountines streams and dams and pipes and environmental issues tehy still are better than nuke.
However there are nowdays better water power turbines, that need no dams and no water fall, but they need a wide and deep enough water stream that runs at at least 3 MpH, bettr if 6 or 10. They rely on water volume rather than presure, you sink them in the river, no constructions, no issues, you can evenm take them out and relocate tehm whenever you need.
