SOLAR POWERED: FIFA 2010

ABOUT PROGRAMME As an effort to further deepen the campaign of alternative renewable energy -- solar Energy in Nigeria, Go SolarAfrica project, an initiative of SMEFUNDS set out to increase awareness on Solar power for the poor. GoSolarAfrica team will host Nigeria's first Solar Powered Viewing Centre for the FIFA 2010 World Cup tournament at Iwerokun community of Eti Osa East local government area of Lagos State all through the Football season. This peculiarity of this location stems from that fact that is IWEROKUN COMMUNITY does not have access to electricity, and like many similar communities across Africa, the youth of IWEROKUN will be fenced out of the global audience of the 2010 world cup. To holding back this from happening, the go SolarAfrica team is making the community Live and Green during this season. The go SolarAfrica team shall likewise hold sessions on solar training to equip the youth with income generating skills towards the emerging Green Collar economy. SOLAR POWERED: FIFA 2010 is being endorsed by the Lagos State Ministry of Sports, Council of Alternative Renewable Energy in Nigeria and TopTech Engneering Limited. The centre will serve as a platform for solar advocacy groups to campaign on the benefits of solar energy to football enthusiasts and the community at large.
